Born in County Mayo in 1965, Jules has a background in facilitating sessional artwork and community arts practice. Returning to full-time education, she graduated from the Wexford School of Art and Design in 2011 (First Class Hons and awarded the Wexford Arts Centre Student of the Year Award). She has since completed a post-grad certificate in Arts and Healthcare Settings with NUIM, and is currently on the MFA program in the NCAD.
Jules currently uses painting and photography to investigate how, within a specific community, knowledge and stories of a certain place can trigger reactions and particular forms of engagement. A circular process between her painting practice, a community arts project and the people involved may be activated.
This intersection of image and a community’s knowledge is an attempt to be less a reflection of a particular place and more a site for an alternative slippage and re-framing to take place.
